Teinnteanach (chin-cha-nack) means “of the hearth,” a name that reflects our aim to create a warm, living centre where people and land flourish together. We are a newly forming housing co-operative in Scotland, rooted in the principles of solidarity, ecological care, and collective living.
Teinnteanach began in 2022 when a group of us gathered online with the shared dream of building an ecovillage in the woods. Rather than rushing to buy land, we took time to grow trust and clarity among ourselves. Through this process we created our Visioning Document, which lays out our shared values and direction, and invites new people to join. In 2024 we formally incorporated as a fully-mutual housing co-operative and became members of Radical Routes, placing us within a wider network of communities committed to practical action in the face of the housing and climate crises.
At present, our focus is on building strong foundations: developing governance, raising funds, and continuing to widen the circle of people who share this vision. We meet regularly to learn, make decisions, and support one another, with biweekly online meetings and quarterly in-person gatherings.
Though we don’t yet have land of our own, we imagine a place surrounded by woodland and water, with homes built from natural materials, food growing in forest gardens, and space for both quiet retreat and community gathering. We see Teinnteanach not only as a home for members, but also as a resource for the wider community—offering workshops, hosting volunteers, and sharing skills in low-impact living.
