Kindling is a housing co-operative in Cowley, Oxford, which bought a house in 2016. Our co-op has eight members. Our house is run by everyone who lives here, without bosses or landlords. We share decisions, chores, and ideas for making the space work for everyone.
Our shared values are about fairness, respect, working together, and
supporting each other. We believe in inclusion, compassion, and standing up against racism, capitalism, and environmental harm. In our own small way, we want to challenge systems that create inequality and work to build fairer alternatives.
We know how tough it is to find a secure and affordable place to live in Oxford—it’s one of the most expensive cities in the UK. With rents and house prices going up all the time, many people are finding it harder to stay in the city. We hope our home shows there’s a way to live without landlords, where tenants work together to maintain and run their own home in an autonomous and collaborative way.
