Radical Routes

Edinburgh Social Centre

Edinburgh Social Centre is an independent hub for community organising and the provision of space and support for organisations working for radical social and ecological goals. We are currently unhoused but our member groups work to the values and principles set out below.

The centre aims to cultivate and directly support a culture of resistance to capitalism, colonialism and patriarchy in Edinburgh, Scotland and internationally, whilst supporting our local community. We aim to create alternative structures of community support, solidarity and collective power; working towards the abolition of capitalism, wage labour, and all forms of oppression. Hence, a space that is controlled by the people and the community, not landowners, for the benefit of the community. It is a space that is completely managed and run by the people and groups using it, aiming to work without hierarchies. Decisions on the space are made collectively by regular open plenaries that all groups who use the space can take equal part in.

Our legal structure is incorporated as a Consortium Co-operative, its members being the incorporated and unincorporated groups which make up the social centre. Social centre and co-op are used interchangeably to refer to ourselves.

The member groups are Autonomous Centre of Edinburgh (ACE); Edinburgh Coalition Against Poverty, Industrial Workers of the World (IWW), Youth in Resistance, and Tripod. We invite more groups to become members as well as to use the space who share our values.
